Please Read Before doing Anything! (Important!)

Postby Andrew on Wed Aug 20, 2008 3:33 pm

Hi Everyone,

I'd just like to implement a few rules here to help make this place more organized.

1) Before Posting a Question:

Use the Forum Search:
Image
This helps to ease everyone's work aroud here, and stop the flood of unnecessary topics that have already been answered.

Browse the Forums:
You can Browse the SubForums at the top of the CSS Forum section, or browse any other Forum.
I have attempted to make an organized Archive of codes that are separated into the relevant sections.
So please take a good look around before asking your Question. Chances are your question is already answered, because we have hundreds of well organized codes here.

2) When Posting a Question:

Topic Subject:
Topic subject names are very important.
It helps identify what the topic is about, what may be asked in the topic, and what the response may be.

Take for example, allot of Topics are created, with Titles like: Please Help me!!! or Just a few Questions.

Say your question was really, eg. How to hide my Fives Section?

Now when New Members join our Group, will they be able to find your question, and the appropriate answer very easily?

No, they will see loads of Topics with everyone shouting for help, and they won't know what each topic is about.

Hence, the poster is only asking in concern for themselves.
And not for the others who may want to ask this same question in the future.
And not those Moderators who will have to repeat the same answer again.

Please Make your Topic Titles neat, and relevant to the question at hand.

Example:
Topic: hi5 Question: How can I make my Profile Picture Larger?

Topic: HTML Question: How can I make Custom HTML links?

Topic Content:
When posting your question, Please make your statements very clear!

Use Examples, Screenshots, links to other profiles when needed.

The more clearly I and everyone else can understand your question, the quicker we can respond.

When I meet a confusing question, I must sometimes leave it for later when I have time to sit down and try to understand what you are asking for.

So again, Please make the Simple effort to explain your questions better.

All writing in the Forum Must be in English language only.
If you ignore this rule, you will get Warnings under your Status, and if persisted, you will be Banned from the Forums.

3) When Answering a Question:

How you answer a Question is up to you, the Answerer.
But please answer in an orderly manner, so that others in the future mat read your answer and benefit from it.

Please also don't ridicule any member for asking a seemingly silly question. (I haven't seen that happen here yet, but just mentioning it before hand.)

But yes of course, the Asker can be warned when asking Questions that have been already answered, or when asking in a selfish manner (Not taking the time to ask properly), writing in different languages, not attempting to use the Search feature, etc...

I'll update this Post when I think of anything important to add.
Please let me know if you have anything in mind you think I should add or change in these rules.
Your feedback is valued.

Please let us act as a responsible and caring Community here.
I hope you all enjoy using these Forums!

well i think it will be better for everyone if we worked with rules,i mean everything is going to be much more organised this way and we will all be able to help ourselves with the forum and not get confused with useless torrents of posts that have been answered thousands of times..
organization was actually the reason for the creation of the forum..
otherwise we would still be working with the group..
thank you for reading!!
have a niCe stay everybody!!

Great rules. Keep the good work!

It should have been implemented a rule about not flooding/spamming this forum, too. I don't want to be mean, but it's really, really annoying to see up to 10-15 (or more) useless consecutive topics from the same user.

It's not bad to make your own publicity, but too much it's quite revolting.
I've had my own forums and I tell it from experience, not just talking nonsense.

"Welcome!" should have been a place where the new users open a topic about themselves. Not a topic flooded by publicity. :? :|

Abusing of this advantage (because it doesn't actually exist a rule on the forum) it would create a big big mess. And it doesn't look good as well.

If you don't intend to delete those topics already made, what about creating a special topic for them? It would be more than welcomed.

I don't see the point in making unnecessary publicity. It should have been prohibited! Why? Because we don't know if that links are "healthy" and without viruses. A helpful publicity, like a link to a site on which are layouts, graphics, codes that Hi5 users can use without fearing they would "catch" a virus on their way on the web page, would be very good.

Well, this is what I had to say at this moment.
I hope my comment will be assessed carefully and seriously.
I wait for your opinion,
